Lupin Seed Extract, a natural collagen booster
The sunny oil that strengthens skin.
BEHIND THE FORMULA:
When I began developing my line of plant-based products I researched thousands of natural ingredients and their benefits because I wanted to create a range of vegan, performance-driven skincare products that would exude the notion of 'eco-luxury'.
This week I am highlighting Lupin Seed Extract, an ingredient that made it to the final cut of the formula in my Rose Radiance Serum. An oil serum that nourishes and increases firmness in skin.
The Lupinus are a large genus of plants, represented in Europe, Asia and North and South America
White lupin (Lupinus albus) is a wild plant that’s readily available in the US, Europe, Asia, Russia, and Ukraine. The entire lupin plant is regarded as a vital source of molecules that can be used for various cosmetic and nutritional products.
Lupeol is extracted from the coatings of white lupin seeds in a patented process. Once extracted, the lupeol is solubilized in oleic sunflower oil and then semi-refined and stabilized by adding natural tocopherol.
Botanic Skincare uses Lupin Seed Extract sourced from lupin plants cultivated using sustainable agricultural practices in France.
BENEFITS FOR SKIN:
‘Lupeol’ is extracted from the seeds of white lupin. This protein rich ingredient stimulates the synthesis of a high quality collagen which provides elasticity and firmness to the dermis.
In a clinical trial of 25 volunteers aged 45 to 65 years tested a cream with 2% Lupeol for 89 days, the volunteers self assessment was that 92% of them noticed improved firmness of the skin and 72% noticed reduced sagging of the facial contour.
In vitro tests: In a 72-hour treatment, Lupeol increased production and secretion of type I collagen by 46%.
